PREMIERE: Colson XL Constructs A Nostalgic Narrative In ‘Take Me There’

We’re now reaching a year of being quarantined and it’s definitely been a journey of self-reflection for most of us. We reminisce on a time where we were not only physically closer to people but emotionally. While many of us can bypass social distance by building and nurturing relationships online, it’s not the same. We yearn for the closeness we once had, the experiences we took for granted, and things to “go back to normal.” Hold onto that feeling. That’s exactly what Colson XL explores in ‘Take Me There.’

‘Take Me There’ captures a feeling of nostalgia and an intense, longing desire to go back in time. Thinking about the past in relation to the present can be overwhelming and painful. That ache and yearning to return to a former self or moment in time is often driven by a dissatisfaction with who or where we are now. We wanted to express this by having the soft, atmospheric pads of the intro guide the listeners back to the past before exploding into the distorted, melodic, dance-focused elements of the drops that represent the return to a time lost.

COLE & HARRISON, COLSON XL

Void of lyrics, the listener is almost forced to be introspective listening to the tune. As sparkling synths and buoyant basslines guide you, you’re taken through a wave of emotions from start to finish. Bringing up old memories can be bittersweet, but it’s the only way we can commit to growth – something that Colson XL has been doing a lot in their career. Harrison gave us his tips on the subject, “We’ve found that the best way to grow is through consistency. For this project, we’ve released at least one song a month, and it has forced us to learn so much about music and the industry. So you can expect to see that continue in 2021.”

Cole then shared what we can expect from them in this coming year saying, “We really want 2021 to be a year of defining Colson XL (especially after the chaos and uncertainty brought on by 2020). As we’ve grown as both artists and people we feel eager and empowered to hone in on the aesthetic, sound, and personality that makes Colson XL a genuine representation of both of us. We’ve got merch, label releases, oh and we may or may not have plans for a Colson XL first this year. Hint: it’s our debut EP ;)”

It’s really been a pleasure to see the exponential development of their career, even just in the last year. Suffice to say, Colson XL has quickly become a FUXWITHIT fave and we’re super excited to give our readers the first listen of ‘Take Me There.’
