Although a Sable Valley resident, he’s been hopping around, dropping tracks on other big tastemaker labels like Elysian Records. For his second EP of the year, Juelz presents to us Paradise Lost via Lowly.
Two of the songs aren’t new to us. Last month, he released trap heater ‘Inferno’ and future bass banger ‘Colours’ with Pauline Herr. But once you listen to the full project, it’ll all make sense.
Paradise Lost starts with the haunting yet hard-hitting ‘Exile,’ that incorporates sultry R&B vocals. The EP’s title track, ‘Paradise Lost,’ then takes center stage, flaunting Juelz’s signature melodically sinister flair. The build-up continues with ‘All Through The Night’ until we hit the high-impact ‘Inferno.’ We get a saccharine recess with Pauline Herr’s voice in ‘Colours’ before hip-hop heavy ‘Hail, Horrors!’ brings us to a bittersweet conclusion.
While listening through the records, I found myself continuously thinking, ‘I bet this is going to be on the next Halloween mix.’ And although the EP sits on a separate label, his imprint on Sable Valley’s sound can’t be missed. A sucker for nostalgia, Juelz hits home with Paradise Lost, reminding me of the golden era of trap, yet somehow still keeping it super fresh and new.
