Brent Faiyaz, DJ Dahi and Tyler, The Creator Team Up on ‘Gravity’

It’s almost Valentine’s Day and we’ve been stuck inside for a year already. So thinking about our exes is almost natural… Not that I know from experience or anything. But Brent Faiyaz and DJ Dahi seem to think so in their new track ‘Gravity’ featuring Tyler, The Creator.

The sweet tune narrates what it feels like when your career brings you all over the world, but something is holding you back and holding you down. For musicians, touring made having stable relationships hard. It’s a common theme for artists to have these struggles while chasing their dreams. Faiyaz tells what it’s like to be in love, even though he knows it’s not the smartest thing to be in a relationship when he can’t be home all the time. He spits, “Would you be mad at me if the whole world knew the s**t we was on?/ It would be tragedy/ My n***** be globe-trottin’ like travel teams/ You always in my travel dreams.”

Tyler, The Creator also adds his experiences about having fun on tour but still thinking about his hometown lover. The Flower Boy rapper spits, “Now when I’m gone, and I roam ’round the globe, for three months/ That’s too long without somethin’ that’s sweet/ So I phone, little treats, that’s a snack, not a feast/ They don’t mean much to me/ ‘Cause I know that I have a bakery back at home.”

DJ Dahi’s saccharine production, Faiyaz’s silky vocals, and Tyler’s playful addition make ‘Gravity’ the quintessential R&B tune. And somehow, the track still manages to be something we all can relate to. We might not know what it’s like to tour, but we’ve all been with someone or been someone who can’t commit. I guess we’re really not all that different.
