California-based artist Matt Sumen, better known as Sumen, is releasing no less than six epic tracks. The musicianship he displays on each of these six releases is simply epic, while that is no extraordinary fact knowing that he has attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, a place that taught him the techniques needed to highlight his talent and fulfill his potential. As we all know, talent is usually not enough to make it in the saturated business of music, but an artist like Sumen has all the tools required to go far and big in the industry. His new releases cover a wide spectrum of genres, from rockabilly to blues, and from rock n roll to rock, and were all recorded since 2019, when Sumen decided to start his own solo project and leave his band.
“Hold Me, Love Me,” “Let It Roll,” “Critical Rescue,” “Silly Songwriter,” “All I Want” and “The Covid-19 Fix” are each showcasing a different facet of his taste in music, both eclectic and utterly sophisticated, as is his mastery of the guitar and vocals.
It comes with no surprise that an atrial like Sumen comes from a family that always had music at the center of its activities, thanks to being polka musicians who migrated from Slovenia. Sumen honors the family tradition and takes his art even further by now managing to bring back the vintage vibes of the 60’s and 70’s to a completely new dimension by adding all the modern elements of the 21t Century, resulting in a timeless and fully inspiring body of work.
