JR Smith beat up a vandal who smashed the window to his car.
JR Smith was in the news yesterday as he was caught on camera beating the living daylights out of a vandal who had smashed the window to his car. While there were protests happening in Los Angeles yesterday, the damage done to Smith’s car came across as extremely random although he served justice in his own unique way.
Following the virality of the video, Smith noted that he had to take matters into his own hands and that he wasn’t committing a “hate crime.” Today, however, Smith changed his tune as he joined the Pat McAfee Show. In the clip below, Smith expresses regret for his actions, and having thought about the incident, he wishes he had handled things differently.
“When it happened, I seen red. Then when I finally snapped to… I’m still disappointed with myself,” Smith said. “For me, I’m 34 years old. I have 4 little girls at home. I don’t want that image, regardless of the fact whether it was right or wrong, I don’t want them to have that image of their dad being capable of doing that, and doing something like that.”
You can’t necessarily fault Smith for his reaction as many of us would have been just as upset. Regardless, we hope everyone in the Smith family is safe right now and that he isn’t being too hard himself. Many others would have done the same.
