The Rise of SLICK: A Deep Dive into the Toronto Producer’s Sound

Toronto-based producer SLICK has been steadily making his name known among DJs and fans alike. The DJ and producer is an underground favourite for his edits and flips, with his tunes gaining support from heavyweights like Flosstradamus, Marshmello, Boombox Cartel, ATLiens, Excision, and RL Grime. His recent remix of Knock2’s “crank the bass, play the muzik” is a certified festival destroyer with nearly 100k plays on SoundCloud alone. 2026 is shaping up to be his breakout year with a ton of music on the horizon, including collaborations with Rickyxsan, Scullion, and more.

To give fans a sneak peek of what’s in store and to get to know SLICK better, we connected with him for our latest Guest Mix + interview. The mix is jam-packed with exclusive edits, flips, mash-ups, and his upcoming collabs. As for the interview we dive into his musical journey, what makes a killer rework, moving from Montreal to Toronto, why Def Jam: Fight for NY is the greatest fighting video game of all time, and much more!

SLICK describes the mix as a perfect representation of the music that inspires him daily. As a vocal advocate for trap music, he has curated a selection that showcases his hard work over the past year. Reflecting on his journey, he notes that he discovered EDM in 2014, initially gravitating toward big room and dubstep. His transition from a casual listener to a producer was driven by his experimentation with mashups in Ableton, a process that eventually led him to develop his signature sound.

I can sit there for hours trying to create the perfect edit, but I try not to do that and instead just wait until I get an idea.

When asked about his secret to crafting a killer rework, SLICK emphasizes the importance of constant listening and training his ears. He stays in tune with the latest releases in the Bass Music realm, blending those sounds with popular tracks to create something fresh. While he enjoys the creative freedom of reworks, he is also focused on dropping more original music in the near future, including collaborations with artists like Rickyxsan and Scullion.

Beyond the studio, SLICK has embraced his recent move from Montreal to Toronto, finding the city’s energy and proximity to everything to be a great catalyst for his career. He remains committed to staying authentic, noting that while it may take longer to reach his goals, being true to himself is the most important realization he has had as an artist. With a clear vision for 2026, he is eager to begin playing shows and sharing his music with fans worldwide.
